CAMPAIGN ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD MONTH AGAINST BREAST CANCER “LOOK INTO MY EYES”

For the third consecutive year St. Sofia First Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital in partnership with Sofia Municipality, the NGO of Nana Gladwish – “One in 8” and with the support of pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Novartis organized a campaign to mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October.

The project “Look into My Eyes” was implemented during the campaign. It consisted of a video installation dedicated to women with breast cancer. The project took place on 3rd to 8th November 2015 at the National Gallery Square 500 and was implemented by "One in 8" foundation. The installation expressed the desire of four women to tell honestly and openly what comes after the words: "You have cancer."

The installation included 4 screens, which broadcasted short video clips where five women told about their experience after the insidious disease – their fears, hope, betrayal of friends, love and the family support to fight against the disease.

The purpose of the project was to provoke the Bulgarian society to support women with breast cancer and their families to speak openly about the disease – with no embarrassment and fear. The appeal of the project "Look into my eyes" was: "It is not necessary to be ‘one in 8’ in order to be one of us".

The hospitals - partners of the initiative are: the Military Medical Academy, UMPHAT St. Marina – Varna, SHATO – Sofia, UMPHAT Alexandrovska, UMHAT St. Anna – Sofia; First, Fourth and Fifth MHAT – Sofia.
